BCExpo 2014 - MULP launch!

Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th saw the launch of MULP: Sceptre of the Sun #1 at my home convention, Bristol Comic Expo!
Myself and writer, Matt Gibbs were there both days with Chris Wildgoose sharing our table. As well as issue one of MULP, our table sported the two giclee character prints of Jack Redpath and Jeanne Moreau, and copies of Improper Books' all ages comic Knight and Dragon, written by Matt and illustrated by Bevis Musson. Down at the dark side of our table Chris had copies of Butterfly Gate and Porcelain (Illustrated by Chris and written by Ben Read).

As the doors opened and people started pouring in through the aisles I settled into sketching. Admittedly this was the part I was most worried about, this being my first time on the other side of the table. So to warm up I just doodled some Comic and TV characters as mice and this ended up setting a trend for the rest of the con! By the end of the day I already had a couple more characters I wanted to mousify on the next day!

Here we have a standard Super-mouse, a Tom Baker 4th Doctor mouse and a Wash from Firefly mouse riding a leaf on the wind! Colours are done with Copic Markers.

Then I started mousfying other characters! Here is A Mousey Kitty Hawk from Dani Abram and Ian Mathews' Razarhawk comic! And Uncle and Child from Porcelain as a rat and mouse (really need to finish that one!)

As well as drawing these at the table I had a few requests to draw in peoples' sketch books! I wish I had taken photos of all of them, but here are the couple I did photograph with their proud owners!

The top sketch is a mousey portrait of the girl holding the sketchbook, sat on a flower. The second is a mousified 9th Doctor, this young whovian's favourite incarnation!

I think I might open myself up for commission for these mousey characters should there be an interest in it!! Along with pet portraits! I have actually been meaning to post up the portraits I have done of my pet rats.

All in all I had a fantastic time, though space was tight there was a great atmosphere! The highlights of my weekend include being serenaded by a Tintin cosplayer, meeting and chatting with some fantastic people, getting to wear my unfinished piece of custom MULP jewellery (courtesy of Vicky Cox) and catching up with a few old friends.
I also couldn't have asked for better table partners in Matt and Chris! You were brilliant, thanks guys!
Roll on CamCon!! :D
